How to choose a nanny payroll service
All good nanny payroll companies will provide you with payslips. However, the level of service and charges will vary considerably. For example, some companies charge per nanny, whereas we charge per payroll. Make sure you get the correct cost for the service at the outset. We charge £225pa, with no additional or hidden costs anywhere. We don't charge extra for....
- paying a second employee, or a temp covering sick or maternity leave
- providing our standard employment contract
- providing weekly payslips
- End of Year Returns, even if the employment straddles two tax years (as it often does)
- making changes to your payroll, e.g. overtime, sick pay, holiday pay, maternity pay, starters or leavers
- claiming tax refunds, including nannies coming in to the UK or going abroad
- backdated payroll problems
Check your nanny payroll service will:
- answer the phone quickly and knowledgeably
- provide illustrations, so you can see in advance what your costs will be
- deal with HMRC on your behalf for everything
- provide your quarterly HMRC bills
- accept notification of changes by phone, email or letter without unreasonable time restrictions
- provide unlimited support to you
- keep you updated about legislative and taxation changes
- be a 'payroll department' for your nanny too
- continue to support you after your nanny has left and your suscription expired. We don't charge extra for your final End of Year Return or any queries arising.
Also, check their sales literature and website for accuracy. You should be able to trust your payroll service to be 100% correct and completely reliable. If their sales literature is full of spelling mistakes, how accurate will their pay calculations be? Given the amount of tax and NI payable, and the extent of your employer responsibilities, the last thing you need is a payroll service that cuts corners.
